Thomas decided to have his friends over to his beach home to see his new boat. When they arrived, they were stunned by its beauty. Immediately, they requested that Thomas take them out on the open water for the day. Thomas knew that he had not been properly trained or equipped with the adequate knowledge of captaining a boat of this magnitude, but against his better judgement, he thought to himself, how hard could it be? Thomas set sail with his friends, enjoying the majestic blue wonders of the Caribbean Sea. They anchored themselves about an hour out and began to party and enjoy themselves. Thomas’s friends drank and danced and partook of the spoils Thomas had graciously prepared for them. At last, they were afforded the opportunity to witness an enchanting sunset on the open seas. Thomas had been distracted by everything the day had to offer, not taking into consideration that his ability to navigate the massive vessel in darkness had yet to be honed. Thomas became frightened, knowing that he had grossly overestimated his ability. The horizon was soon erased by darkness and Thomas knew that he was lost. He pleaded silently to GOD that he and his friends be delivered from the darkness. After traveling slowly in the opposite direction from which he had come, Thomas saw flashes of light in the distance. He recognized the origin of the light; it was the lighthouse located adjacent to the island he lived on. Thomas rejoiced, knowing that the light house would illuminate his path back to safety.
Brothers and sisters, it is easy to be enticed by the wilds of the
world. We are often distracted by what it is we desire, not realizing the
dangers that lurk in darkness as we navigate towards those desires. We, like
Thomas, see our fleshly desires in the light, not paying attention to the time we’ve wasted
upon the mirage as it dissipates in darkness. In our pursuit of superficial desires,
we forget how we arrived into the depths of the abyss, lacking any sign of a
moral compass. In the enclosures of darkness, GOD prepared for us a beacon of
light; A lighthouse! Our Bible tells us in John 8:12, Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of
the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the
light of life. The light of the world means that there is no dark place that
cannot be illuminated by His Glory. Christ is forever at the center of our
lives, serving as the “lighthouse” that guides us to the shores of salvation!
My prayer for you today:
“Heavenly Father,
we are often distracted by the superficial aspects of this world, but you have
sent your Son who has overcome the world. Thank you for His light that
illuminates the paths of those seeking your gift of salvation. Submerged in the
perils of darkness, we seek your light… Thank you for your grace and mercy,
that we may forever be guided back into your loving arms. In Jesus name, Amen…”
I hope this has
been a blessing to someone today. May God bless you all!
