This week I’ve been a little down.
Doubt has loomed over my head like melancholy storm clouds waiting to unleash a
torrential downpour upon me. In the midst of this feeling, I kept hearing this
soft voice in my spirit that has remained constant; “Smite the Rock!”
I have read many FB posts from people who may be sharing similar feelings such as those I have experienced this week. Some of you have lost loved ones, others are feeling the sting of divorce, loneliness, ailing bodies, judgement, and financial troubles. We all must face our time in the wilderness, a place where God can deal with you in isolation. Through the wilderness, you must face all that it has to offer: Desolation and drought (i.e. loneliness and thirst), camouflaged snakes in the cracks (i.e. those that attack stealthily from unseen places), and fowls of the air (i.e. vouchers that look down upon you in judgement hoping to feed upon you as you succumb to the adversity of the wilderness). When the children of Israel were delivered from Egypt, Moses led them into the wilderness as part of their journey to the Promised Land, which God had promised them. In the wilderness, God allowed all of the aforementioned conditions listed above. Finally the Israelites became upset with Moses because they suffered thirst. Exodus 17:4-6 says, 4 And Moses cried unto the LORD, saying, What shall I do unto this people? They be almost ready to stone me.
5 And the LORD said unto Moses, Go on before the people, and take with thee of the elders of Israel; and thy rod, wherewith thou smotest the river, take in thine hand, and go.
6 Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in Horeb; and thou shalt smite the rock, and there shall come water out of it, that the people may drink. And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.
God puts us in situations so that we might know him and all that He is capable of. Friends, without experience of loneliness, heartache, pain, or thirst, we know no deliverance. Would we know light if there was no darkness? While you are in the midst of your wilderness, you are not alone. God seeks your attention and has prepared for you a rod of faith. Stretch forth that rod and “Smite the Rock”, and you shall no longer thirst!
I hope this is a blessing to someone this morning! Navigate this day in confidence knowing that the rock designed to obstruct your path has now been commanded to pour with remedy! God bless you brothers and sisters in Christ….
